MANAYUNK, PA (10/28/02) -- While three Saint Joseph's players were competing this weekend at the OMNI HOTELS/ITA Regional Championships at Penn, the Hawks sent three singles players to compete at the Saint Joseph's Classic.
The brainchild of SJU coach Gene Miller, the tournament served as a supplement to the Regional Championships. It was held at nearby Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Center in Manayunk.
For St. Joe's, freshman
Jimmy Holland reached the finals of the 16-player tourney before falling to Brett Saiontz of Harvard, 6-4, 6-0. Holland won matches over A. Arons (Yale), 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, B. Chiu (Harvard), 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 6-3 and J. Bohnen (Harvard), 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the finals.
Fellow freshman
Antonio Aniello dropped his first match to J. Bohnen of Harvard, 6-4, 6-4, but rallied in the consolation bracket to reach the finals. He dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to Gordie Milchutsky of Rutgers in the consolation finals.
