Men's Tennis Knocks off Swarthmore, 5-2

SWARTHMORE, PA - Saint Joseph's swept the second through fifth singles slots and also picked up the doubles point as the Hawks defeated Swarthmore, 5-2, at the Mullan Center.

The Hawks opened the match with a sweep of the doubles to earn the first point. Frank Velazquez and A.J. Garabedian knocked off Jon Reiss and Brian Park 8-2 at No. 1 and Chris Spencer and Van Homer Pangilinan defeated Jon Lo and Justin Durand 9-8, winning the tiebreaker 7-2. In third doubles, Antonio Aniello and Zach Dixon defeated Sam Sidhu and Rahul D'Silva 8-2.

In singles play, Aniello defeated Park in three sets 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 and Pangilinan need three sets to dispatch Lo, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 4. Garabedian defeated Durand 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 and Spencer blanked Adam Wallwork '07 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Reiss battled Velazquez 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-4 to win at No. 1 while Sidhu rallied to knock off Dixon, 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 at No. 6.
