Hawks Fall to Bona, Down Duquesne at A-10 Championship

MONROEVILLE, PA - The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team will face George Washington on Sunday in the fifth place match at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship held at the Oxford Athletic Club. The Hawks fell to St. Bonaventure on Friday in the opening round, 4-1, and then swept past Duquesne on Saturday, 4-0.

SJU swept past the Dukes, 4-0, as No. 1 singles Frank Velazquez (6-0, 6-1), No. 2 singles Jimmy Holland (6-3, 6-4) and No. 3 singles A.J. Garabedian (6-0, 6-4) all emerged with straight-set victories.

On Friday versus St. Bonaventure, the Hawks got off to a good start securing the doubles point as Holland and Antonio Aniello won at second doubles, 8-2, and Chris Spencer and Van Homer Pangilinan registered an 8-5 win at third. SBU, however swept the first through fourth singles matches to earn the win. SPencer and Pangilinan were each competing in the third set when their matches were halted.

GW will face Saint Joseph's on Sunday at 8:00am in the fifth-place match.
