Members of the Saint Joseph's men's tennis team took part in the 2010 ITA Atlantic Regional Championships at the University of Virginia on October 20-21.
In the singles draw, Alex Veronis won his first round match over Ilja Orre of William and Mary, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 before falling to 15th-seeded Philippe Oudshoorn of Virginia in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Also competing in the singles draw, Paul Ganev fell to Jesse Kiuru of Maryland, 6-2, 6-4, Tommy Gates suffered a 6-1, 6-1 defeat at the hands of Radford's Stijn Muelmans, and Peter Cognetti dropped a 7-5, 6-4 result to Kacper Rams of Temple.
In the consolation draw, Ganev lost to Russell Bader of Penn State, 6-0, 6-1, Gates was defeated by Morgan State's Eric Ward, 6-3, 6-2, and Cognetti fell to Collin Laffey of Lehigh, 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles competition, Ganev and Veronis fell to a duo from Virginia Commonwealth, 8-3, while Cognetti and Kessler dropped an 8-1 result to Reese Milner and Dino Dell'Orto of the host Cavaliers.
The team will take a three-month break from competition before the schedule starts back up in the spring semester. The Hawks kick off 2011 with a dual match at Navy on January 29.
