Men's Tennis Hosts 2010 Saint Joseph's Invitational

MERION STATION, Pa. - This weekend, the Saint Joseph's University men's tennis program will host the second annual Saint Joseph's Invitational on the courts of the SJU Tennis Complex at the Maguire Campus and at Finnesey Courts. The event, featuring competitors from 10 different universities, will be held Friday, September 24 through Sunday, September 26.

Student-athletes from Saint Joseph's, Army, Delaware, Drexel, Lafayette, Monmouth, Penn, Temple, UMBC, and Villanovs will compete in four singles flights and two doubles flights over the course of the tournament.

Play begins on Friday at 1:30 p.m. with the opening matches in Singles Flight 2 and the first round and quarterfinals of both doubles flights.

Saturday brings the first round and quarterfinal matches in all four singles flights as well as the doubles semifinals.

On Sunday, all four singles flights will play their semifinal and championship matches while the doubles flights will hold their championship matches later in the day to close out the event.

Eight Saint Joseph's players will be in action for the tournament hosts. Alex Veronis and Paul Ganev will participate in the first singles flight, Tommy Gates and Peter Cognetti will play in the second, Dan Barrus competes in the third, and Paranjay Malhotra and Joey Robinson will battle it out in the fourth.

SJU will also trot out four doubles pairings across the two flights. Cognetti and Jeff Kessler will team up alongside Veronis and Ganev in Flight 1, while Flight 2 features the duos of Barrus/Robinson and Gates/Malhotra.
