Feb. 26, 2011

AMBLER, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team dropped a 6-0 result to UMBC on Saturday night at the Upper Dublin Sports Center in Ambler, Pa. Sophomore Alex Veronis had the best showing for the Hawks, pushing his top-flight singles match to three sets.

Veronis was matched up with UMBC's Joe Adewumi and dropped the first set, 6-2, before coming back to win the second. Adewumi won the third, 6-3, to win the match.

Freshman Dan Barrus also played well, forcing a supertiebreaker at number five.

There was no doubles action in the match.

The Hawks are idle until spring break, when the squad makes its annual journey to Orlando for a week of matches. SJU starts the trip by facing Monmouth on Tuesday, March 8.
