Fairmount Park

The Saint Joseph's men's and women's track and field and cross country programs take advantage of a number of local venues when it comes to training. Hawk runners can often be found in nearby Fairmount Park, along the banks of the Schuylkill River, and racing across the Belmont Plateau, just to name a few.

One of the largest municipal parks in the United States, Fairmount Park includes several excellent training venues for Saint Joseph's runners. The Hawks benefit from the use of the Wissahickon Trail, Belmont Plateau, and both Martin Luther King, Jr. and Kelly Drives (also known as West and East River Drives, respectively). All are just minutes away from Hawk Hill and are among the most favored spots for Philadelphia's running community.

Wissahickon Trail
The Wissahickon Trail is a five-mile path, 30 yards wide, that follows alongside the Wissahickon Creek. There are numerous trails that branch off of the main route that provide opportunities for exploratory runs.

Belmont Plateau
The Belmont Plateau is Philadelphia's primary high school and college cross country course and is considered one of the most challenging in the country.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Kelly Drive
Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Kelly Drive (also known as West and East River Drives, respectively) create an eight-mile loop along the Schuylkill River that passes by the world-renowned Boathouse Row, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the famous "Rocky" statue. A perfectly flat track, the river loop is great for tempo runs.
