The Saint Joseph’s University Hawk Band acts as the University’s musical ambassadors, performing a variety of events both on and off campus. One of the fastest growing bands in the Big 5, the Hawk Band is composed of dedicated students, who, through their musicianship make a positive impact on St. Joe's campus culture.
About The Band
The Saint Joseph’s University Hawk Band is dedicated to fostering school spirit, energizing the crowd, and supporting our athletic teams through dynamic and engaging musical performances. We strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment where students of all musical backgrounds can come together to share their passion for music, sports, and our home at SJU. Our mission is to enhance the game-day experience, promote camaraderie among students, and represent our college with pride and excellence.
Scholarship Opportunities
The Hawk Band offers a scholarship to incoming students who pass a video audition. Students who accept the scholarship year $1,500 in their first year of service, and $2,000 in each additional year.
In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students must first be admitted to Saint Joseph's. Scholarship requirements and applications can be found in the admissions portal.
Scholarship applicants are required to submit a musical resume and a video containing two contrasting musical excerpts. Excerpts may be of the applicant’s choice - it is recommended that applicants choose music they already know well or are playing in their school ensembles.
The Hawk Band performs at all Hawks home basketball games along with:
• University Open Houses
• Admitted Students Days
• A variety of ceremonial events including graduation
The Hawk Band travels several times each year including to:
• Men’s and Women’s Big 5 Tournaments – recently at the Wells Fargo Center and Villanova University
• Men’s and Women’s A-10 Championships - recently in Richmond, Va., Brooklyn, N.Y., and Washington, D.C.
• Post season tournaments - recently at Seton Hall in March of 2024
The Hawk Band hosts three open houses for admitted students and high school musicians of any grade. If students are interested in spending a night performing with the Hawk Band band at a Saint Joseph's basketball game, please send an email to the address below. All instruments, including strings, are welcome.
The Hawk Band will be announcing its 2026 open house dates in November.
