MEN'S NETTERS SWEEP LA SALLE IN MAKE-UP MATCH

PHILADELPHIA (04/22/03) -- In a make-up match against city rival La Salle, Saint Joseph's swept by the Explorers, 7-0, to wrap up its season with a 15-6 record. The 15 wins tie a school record set in 1971. Sophomore Francisco Velazquez started things off with a 6-1, 6-0 win at first singles, while freshman Jimmy Holland was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at second singles. Sophomore Van Homer Pangilinan picked up a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win and freshman Antonio Aniello did the same at fourth singles, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. Freshman Greg Chang was a 6-1, 6-1 victor at fifth singles, while junior Bobby Cappelli wrapped the singles competition up with a 6-3, 6-1 win at #6. Velazquez and Pangilinan teamed up for an 8-1 win at first doubles, followed by an 8-5 win by Aniello and Cappelli at #2. Freshman A.J. Garabedian and junior Mike Goldschmidt sealed the victory with an 8-6 win at third doubles.
