PHILADELPHIA (03/31/03) - Saint Joseph's sophomore Van Homer Pangilinan and freshman Jimmy Holland were honored by the Atlantic 10 Monday as the conference's player and rookie of the week, respectively.
Pangilinan earned a pair of victories in both singles and doubles competition as the Hawks upped their wining streak to five. On March 25 in a 6-1 win over Lafayette, Pangilinan earned a 5-7, 6-4 (7) fourth singles win and an 8-4 second doubles win. He then posted a three-set third singles victory over Fordham's Andrew Salak and an 8-5 first doubles win to lead Saint Joseph's to a 7-0 win on March 29. Improved his record to 15-8 in singles play and ranks eighth all-time at Saint Joseph's with 29 career wins.
Holland earned a pair of straight set second singles wins and a couple of second doubles triumphs as the Hawks won both their matches this past week. In a 6-1 win over Lafayette on Mar. 25, Holland took a 6-0, 6-0 singles decision and an 8-5 doubles win. He then had a 7-6 (2), 7-5 singles win and 8-1 doubles win in a 7-0 win over Fordham on March 29.. With his win at Fordham, Holland earned his 13th win of the season at second singles, setting a Saint Joseph's record. His 19 wins this season are the second-highest total in school history.
