MEN'S TENNIS OPENS SPRING SEASON WITH 7-0 WIN OVER MT. ST. MARY'S

SWARTHMORE, PA (02/01/03) - Saint Joseph's opened its spring season in impressive fashion with a 7-0 win over Mount St. Mary's at Swarthmore College on Saturday. With the win, the Hawks improved to 2-0 on the season. Sophomore sensation Francisco Velazquez sported a 6-3, 6-4 victory at first singles. Freshman Jimmy Holland was strong at second singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win, as was classmate Chris Spencer at third singles (6-3, 6-2.) Sophomore Van Homer Pangilinan was a 6-3, 6-0 victor at fourth singles and freshman Greg Chang won 6-1, 6-2 at fifth singles. Another rookie, A.J. Garabedian closed out the singles results with a 6-4, 6-2 win at #6. In doubles, Velazquez-Pangilinan continued their dominance from their rookie campaign with a 6-0 victory at #1. Holland and Garabedian were 6-2 winners at #2 doubles and Spencer teamed with classmate Antonio Aniello to pick up a 6-0 win at #3 doubles. SJU returns to the courts next Saturday when it takes on Virginia at the University of Pennsylvania.
