NETTERS OPEN TEXAS SPRING BREAK TOUR WITH 7-0 WIN AT HOWARD PAYNE

BRONWOOD, TX (03/10/03) - The Hawk men's tennis team opened its Texas spring break tour with a 7-0 whitewashing of Division III Howard Payne in Bronwood. SJU improves to 4-4 on the season and faces #40 Southern Methodist tomorrow. Sophomore Francisco Velazquez started things off with a 6-3, 6-2 win at #1, while freshman Jimmy Holland ran together a 6-3, 6-1 victory at #2. Sophomore Van Homer Pangilinan and freshman Greg Chang were impressive at #3 and #4, respectively, earning 6-0, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-0 wins. At fifth singles, freshman A.J. Garabedian was a 6-1, 6-1 victor and classmate Antonio Aniello won 6-2, 6-2 at #6. The Hawks won the doubles point without dropped a single match. Garabedian and Holland faced a tough matchup at #1 doubles, but survived with a 9-8 victory.
