The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team avenged its only loss of the season Wednesday afternoon as the Hawks downed Mount St. Mary's, 5-2, at Finnesey Courts.
Saint Joseph's, who dropped its only match of the season to the Mount, 3-2, in early September, grabbed the opening point of the match as all three doubles teams won their matches. The duo of freshman Jennifer Kedzierski and junior Stephania Velazquez earned an 8-3 victory over Katie Meuthing and Kaitlin Hallahan at No. 1 doubles, while SJU's Gina DiGiacomo and Marisa Donelson downed Jen Iosue and Chelseas Johnson 8-6 at the second pairing. The Hawks' team of sophomore Krysta Contino and junior Lauren Kuhmerker earned the sweep of the doubles matches as they downed Ashley Wentzel and Alicia Patterson 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
In individual competition, Saint Joseph's claimed the match with wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles. Playing at first singles, Velazquez was a straight-set winner over Hallahan, 6-4, 6-2, while Kedzierski kept her unbeaten record intact with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Muething at No. 2 singles. Guers' 6-1, 6-3 win over Iosue at No. 3 singles capped the match for the Hawks and Donelson closed out the match by defeating Christine Pace 6-0, 6-3.
