PHILADELPHIA-Saint Joseph's men's tennis suffered its first loss this season, 6-1, at the hands of Delaware on Thursday afternoon on Finnesey Courts. Pat Adams won his No. 2 singles match and teamed up with Matt Prusack for a doubles victory.
Adams defeated Andre Vorobyov 7-6 (4), 7-5 at No. 2 singles. In doubles, teammate Prusack helped knock off Delaware's tandem of Vorobyov and Sam Barrer, 8-5, in No. 2 doubles.
Michael Stauble won his first set at No. 1 singles, 6-3, before rolling his ankle in the second set and retiring the match to UD's Austin Longacre. Earlier, Stauble and teammate Phil Bayliss dropped a 8-6 doubles match to Longacre and Nolan Greenberg.
Prusack took the first set, 6-4, from Greenberg in No. 3 singles before dropping the second set 4-6 and the super tiebreaker 10-1.
Jeff Kessler lost at No. 4 singles to Barrer, 6-3, 6-3. Kevin Aquino dropped the No. 5 singles match to Delaware's Chris Hinker, 6-0, 7-5. Peter Cognetti couldn't hold off Courtney Scott (6-2, 6-1) at No. 6 singles.
Cognetti and Aquino lost to Hickner and Scott, 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
SJU drops to 0-1 on the year. The match was to be played yesterday, but was suspended early on due to thunderstorms and resumed this afternoon.
