The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team finished tied for 13th place at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship, falling 4-3 Saturday morning at the Club 4 Life. The Hawks capped their season with an 8-8 mark.
In a highly competitive match with the Bonnies, the Hawks dropped the opening point to St. Bonaventure in doubles play.
Switching to singles play, Saint Joseph's grabbed points at the first two flights to gain a 2-1 lead in the match. Senior Stephania Velazquez posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over SBU's Anna Perevesentzeva at No. 1 singles, while the Hawks' sophomore Jennifer Kedzierski posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Yollande Callaghan at No.2 singles.
The Bonnies regained the lead, 3-2, with wins at the third and fourth, but senior Lauren Kuhmerker posted a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles to tie the match at three points apiece.
Unfortunately for Saint Joseph's, the Bonnies were able to gain the final point of the match with a win at No. 6 singles.
