Saint Joseph's Women's Tennis Team Falls to Villanova, 6-1

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team opened the home portion of its 2008-09 schedule against rival Villanova Wednesday afternoon at Finnesey Courts. Unfortunately for the Hawks, there was no home court advantage as SJU fell to the Wildcats, 6-1.

Opening with doubles competition, Saint Joseph's (0-1) junior Jennifer Kedzierski and freshman Laura Matz posted an 8-5 win over Villanova's Courtney Reed and Kristen Gobberg at the second flight. Unfortunately for the Hawks, they couldn't earn a victory in either the first or third flights as Villanova (1-0) earned the point.

Individually, Kedzierski posted a 6-3, 6-0 win over Reed in the first flight, but again Saint Joseph's fell just short, dropping the other five singles matches.

Saint Joseph's returns to action next Wednesday, September 24, at home versus Rider at 3 p.m.
