The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team opened play at its brand-new Tennis Complex at the Maguire Campus on Wednesday. Unfortunately, the Hawks fell to Mount St. Mary's, 6-1, in a hard-fought contest.
The Mount claimed the opening point of the match, posting wins at all three doubles matches. in singles play, sophomore Sally Kalani Stainier posted a 7-6, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles, but it wasn't enough for SJU, despite a third-set tie-breaking loss by freshman Nicole Esposito at No. 5 singles.
With the loss, SJU falls to 1-1 on the season, while Mount St. Mary's improves to 4-0.
The Hawks return to action next Tuesday at Delaware.
