MERION STATION, Pa. -
The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 result to the Delaware Blue Hens on Tuesday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex at the Maguire Campus. The match was the team's last dual competition of the fall season.
Despite not winning any matches, the Hawks were able to keep things close. Peter Cognetti and Jeff Kessler fell in number-one doubles, 8-5, while Tommy Gates and Paranjay Malhotra took their third-flight match down to the wire before succumbing by an 8-6 score.
In singles play, Gates dropped the first set of his third-flight match against Andre Vorobyov, 6-1, before battling back to force a tiebreaker. Vorobyov eventually emerged victorious, 6-1, 7-6 (4).
"It was a competitive match against a pretty deep, solid squad," head coach Ian Crookenden said.
SJU will send individuals to the ITA Regionals in Norfolk, Va., October 23-25, to close out fall competition.
