Women's Tennis Falls to Delaware, 7-0

Oct. 18, 2010

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team capped the dual portion of its Fall schedule Monday afternoon with a competitive match against Delaware. Despite several strong performances, the Hawks dropped the match to the Blue Hens, 7-0, at the SJU Tennis Complex.

Delaware (1-0) claimed the first point of the match, winning all three doubles matches. The team of freshman Devi Jadejaand junior Laura Matz put up a strong effort at No. 1 doubles, but fell 8-1, while Tara Walsh and Sally Kalani Stainier had a strong effort in an 8-1 loss at No. 2 doubles.

Switching to singles, Stainier held her own at the second flight against Delaware's Dorothy Safron. Safron, who won the No. 1 flight at the SJU Classic two weeks prior, was challenged by Stainier, but ultimately won, 6-2, 6-2. Walsh also put up a hard-fought match at No. 5 singles before falling to Olivia Heim, 6-3, 6-1.

Saint Joseph's posted a 1-3 mark in dual matches during the Fall and will cap it off as individual Hawks will compete at the ITA Regionals this weekend at Virginia Tech.
