Men's Tennis Falls to Richmond, 5-2

Feb. 12, 2011

AMBLER, Pa. - A power outage delayed the start of the Saint Joseph's-Richmond men's tennis match on Friday night, but when the lights came on at the Upper Dublin Sports Center, the Spiders emerged with a 5-2 victory over the Hawks. SJU earned singles points from junior Peter Cognetti at number four and freshman Dan Barrus at number five.

Cognetti dropped the first set before storming back to defeat Zach Carl, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. Barrus won in straight sets, taking down Rafael Arana, 6-1, 6-4.

"Pete had a great comeback in his match," said head coach Ian Crookenden. "We also received an excellent performance out of Dan at number five."

Richmond took all three doubles matches, 8-2, 8-4, and 8-4, to secure the first point of the match. The Spiders then got straight-sets victories in each of the top three singles flights to lock up the win.

The Hawks return to the indoor courts at Upper Dublin Sports Center on Friday for a contest against Stony Brook.
