AMBLER, Pa. -
The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team started off strong against Fordham on Saturday night, using a victory in the doubles point to propel the Hawks to a 7-0 sweep of the Rams at the Upper Dublin Sports Center. All six Hawk singles players won their matches in straight sets in SJU's most dominant performance of the season.
The doubles pairings of Peter Cognetti and Jeff Kessler and Tommy Gates and Kristian Broaddus were winners at the first and third flights, respectively, to give the Hawks the early edge.
All four were straight-sets winners in singles as well, as were Alex Veronis (first flight) and Dan Barrus (fifth flight), who had previously fallen in a tiebreaker in the second doubles flight.
SJU's next match is in the nation's capital as the Hawks will head to Washington, D.C., to take on George Washington. The match is set for Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
