ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team finished eighth at the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championship in Sunday after falling, 4-1, to seventh-seeded Richmond in the seventh-place match. On Saturday, the Hawks suffered a 4-0 defeat to fifth-seeded St. Bonaventure in the initial consolation round.

Saint Joseph's won the third flight doubles match over the Bonnies on Saturday, as Tommy Gates and Kristian Broaddus won an 8-5 decision, but after SBU took the second flight, Peter Cognetti and Jeff Kessler fell in a heartbreaker, 9-7, in the top flight to give St. Bonaventure the doubles point.

Kessler, Gates and Cognetti fell in their second, third and fourth flight singles matches to give the Bonnies the sweep and put SJU into the seventh-place match on Sunday morning.

Richmond took the doubles point in Sunday's match, cruising to an 8-3 win in the first flight before Gates and Broaddus battled all the way to the end but eventually came up on the short end of a 9-7 decision in the third.

Cognetti was a winner in the fourth flight, taking down Justin Baker with a 6-3, 6-2 result, but the Spiders took the first-, second-, and sixth-flight matches to secure the victory and seventh place.
