SHELTON, CONN. -
The Saint Joseph's men's rowing team opened its fall season at the Head of the Housatonic boating three eights - the Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and Freshman 8.
"Our Freshman 8+ had the most consistent performance of the day. They did a nice job of handling themselves on the road in the varsity division of the event. I am excited to see how they race at the Navy Day Regatt this coming weekend," said second-year coach Mike Irwin. "The varsity boats showed decent form in sections of the race but did not put together a full three miles. We are going to see Williams again soon since they are defending champs in our event at the Head of the Charles. We believe we can close the gap but we need to keep moving forward with our skills and fitness."
The Hawks' lineups consisted of the following:
Varsity 8+: c- Brandon Ciccone; 8- Jamal Anderson; 7- John Lesko; 6- Marc Ioli; 5- Vince Scelso; 4- Dan Walz; 3- Dan Ezzo; 2- Dave Robinson; 1- Matt Johnson
2nd Varsity 8+: c- Caroline McGuire; 8- Tom Garry; 7- Andrew Shafer; 6- Nick Shafer; 5- Joe Larocque; 4- Gabe Fox; 3- Kevin Leslie; 2- Alex Amedeo; 1- Brian Giles
Freshman 8+: c- Jonathan Lopes; 8- Matt Poles; 7- John Puma; 6- Steve Pennington; 5- Jesse English; 4- Rob Smith; 3- Ryan D'Agostino; 2- Billy Risko; 1- Nick Johnson
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 13 when they host the Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River.
