Men's Tennis Wins Fourth Straight, Downs NJIT, 4-3

NEWARK, N.J. - The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team posted its fourth consecutive victory on Sunday, earning a 4-3 triumph over NJIT at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility. Junior Tommy Gates and sophomore Dan Barrus improved to 3-0 on the week in doubles play, while freshman Max Montague won his third singles match of the week as well.

Barrus and Gates were winners in a tiebreaker in the second doubles flight, while Peter Cognetti and Alex Veronis locked down the doubles point in flight number three with a 9-7 win.

Montague won a three-set battle over Joao Tasca, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 in the fifth flight to win his fourth straight singles match, while Gates was a straight-sets winner in the third flight.

Freshman Pierre Brondeau won the sixth flight, 6-3, 6-4, for SJU's other point.

Saint Joseph's improved to 7-11 on the season while the Highlanders fell to 11-7.

The Hawks will get right back to action on Tuesday, traveling across town for a tilt with La Salle.
