The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end on Wednesday afternoon as Drexel emerged with a 4-3 win. The Dragons' victory in the doubles flight made the difference as the two teams split the six singles flights.
The Dragons earned the win via a 9-8 victory in second doubles by Daniel Hansen and Jeganathan Srinivasan over Dan Barrus and Tommy Gates. Drexel won the first flight match, 8-3, while Peter Cognetti and Alex Veronis rolled through their opposition to an 8-1 win in the third flight.
In singles play, Gates, Max Montague, and Pierre Brondeau were straight-sets winners in the second, fourth and fifth flights, respectively. Gates defeated Srinivasan, 6-4, 6-4, to take the second flight, while Montague earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Darius Frick in the fourth.
Brondeau emerged with a 6-3, 6-3 fifth-flight win over Dan Koehler to earn SJU's third point of the afternoon. Unfortunately for the Hawks, Paul Stauskas outlasted Paranjay Malhotra, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 in the sixth flight to secure the winning point.
The Hawks will look to rebound on Thursday afternoon when they host Temple. The match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
