WASHINGTON, D.C. -
The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team swept its races with Duquesne and Georgetown at the GW Invitational Regatta, and won one of four with GW, this weekend on the Potomac River.
On a blustery Saturday, the Hawks captured all four races - the Varsity 4, the 3rd Varsity 8, the Second Varsity 8 and the Varsity 8 against Duquesne. Against Georgetown, SJU won the Varsity 4, A & B boats, the Second Varsity 8 and the Varsity 8.
On Friday, SJU faced the home team and scored a win in the Varsity 4, but were edged in the three eights.
The Varsity 4 of Laken Ethun, Nicola O'Donnell, Molly Lawrence, Kelly Rupert and Jess Romano went undefeated this weekend.
"We struggled handling the very strong tail wind on Friday, but made good adjustments for the conditions on Saturday," said head coach Gerry Quinlan. "GW had better boat feel than we did and we just couldn't gain traction. But we will see them again at our conference championship.
Saint Joseph's finished third in the point standings for the Howard W. Wilkins Bowl, behind George Washington and MIT.
