PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team will defend its Atlantic 10 title at the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday, May 5 at the Cooper River, with hopes of repeating as conference champions. Racing begins at 8 a.m. Results and updates
The Hawks captured their first-ever conference team title last season, while winning the Freshman 8, taking the silver medal in the Varsity 8 and finishing third in both the Second Varsity 8 and the Varsity 4.
SJU is coming off two first-place performances at the Kelly Cup, won by the Freshman 8 and Freshman 4.
The team has had a strong season so far and will be seeded third in all of Saturday's events. The Hawks will compete in the Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, Varsity 4, Varsity 4-B, Freshman 4, and the Quad.
"Although we haven't had as many wins as some previous years, we have been right there in second place within striking distance of first," said Hawks' coach Gerry Quinlan. "We should have no distractions since we finished up finals this week, it is all rowing in our sights this weekend. Our energy level has really jumped in recent days as the excitement builds for A10s."
