The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team used a balanced effort on Friday night to defeat Atlantic 10 rival Fordham by a 5-2 score at the Upper Dublin Sports Center. Jeff Kessler and Pierre Brondeau earned wins in both singles and doubles play on the night.
Kessler teamed up with Dan Barrus to take their first-flight doubles match, 8-5, before beating Jan Krouham in a supertiebreaker in the sixth singles flight.
Brondeau and Alex Veronis were 8-6 winners in the third doubles flight before Brondeau cruised past Alex DeRienzo, 6-2, 6-1.
Also winning for the Hawks were Jose Sierra and Max Montague. Sierra dispatched his third flight opponent, 6-3, 6-2, while Montague nabbed a 6-1, 6-2 win in the fifth flight.
The Hawks will take their 3-2 record into the month of March as they are set to begin outdoor play with a match against UMBC on Friday, March 1, at the SJU Tennis Complex at 2:00 p.m.
