Women's Rowing Has Solid Showing at Jesuit Invitational

March 17, 2013

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. - The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team turned in a solid outing as host of the 14th Annual Jesuit Invitational Regatta on Cooper River.

And despite the blustery, cold day with intermittent snow and sleet, the conditions did not affect racing as there were flat, but slow conditions.

The Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8 and 3rd Varsity 8 boats finished second to Boston College while the Varsity 4 finished 5th.

"We are still searching for some stride in our 2V, 3V and V4 boats. We know we have the makings of winning boats - we just need some more time to complete the process," said coach Gerry Quinlan. "The V8 had a great row. We were behind early but showed a lot of poise to get back in the race and never lost connection on BC. In the last 400 meters, I was glad to see us move first. We were in a losing position and were aggressive. We were in a position to win but just ran out of room in the final strokes. We were very race savvy for an early March race."

The Hawks are back in action March 23 on the Schuylkill River against Penn and George Washington.
