Women's Rowing Has Solid Day Against GW and Penn

March 23, 2013

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team had a solid day of racing on the Schuylkill River, against Penn and George Washington.

The Hawks' Varsity 8 finished ahead of A-10 foe GW, and was second to Penn. The Hawks had a strong row and although jumping out ahead early, couldn't hold off the strong Penn crew.

Results

"We put forth a great effort today. The conditions limited our options, but really did not effect the result. We handled them well and certainly made Penn earn the 1000 meters," said SJU coach Gerry Quinlan. "It was nice to get a win over a very strong GW team - they were A-10 runner-up last year - and it was good to feel like we are in the hunt again."

The Varsity 4 also rowed a solid race and finished ahead of GW, and second to Penn.

"We have had three tough races so far this season. We have gathered a lot of information and we now have a break from racing and can hit some of our problem areas in preparation for the remainder of our season," said Quinlan.

The Hawks are back in action on April 6th when the V8 and V4 travel to the San Diego Crew Classic.
