TOWSON, Md. - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team was dominant in its match versus Loyola (Md.) on Saturday at the Towson Tiger Classic. The Hawks took all four singles matches and the doubles match in the second day of the tournament as no team results are recorded.
Saint Joseph's took control from the start in all four singles matches and never let the Greyhounds to get momentum. Sophomore Claire Minnoe dropped just one game in topping Emily Hughes, 6-1, 6-0, while senior Kelly Mulquin was a 6-4, 6-0 winner over Nicole Eberle. Senior Lauren Roy posted a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Olivia Ott, while Rookie Maureen Devlin capped the strong performances by the Hawks with a 6-4, 6-1 win in her first collegiate match.
Playing just one doubles match, juniors Anne Marie Devlin and Arianne Polatnick were challenged by Julie Clark and Ania Krawiec, but in the end it was the SJU duo that earned the win, 6-4, 6-4.
The Hawks begin the final day of play on Sunday against Towson at 9 a.m. Saint Joseph's will also face Mount St. Mary's and UMBC to cap the first weekend of the season.
