Women's Tennis Caps Tiger Classic With Strong Performances

TOWSON, Md. - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team capped the final day of the Towson Tiger Classic with a strong showing in all three of its matches as the Hawks won a combined 10 matches on the day.

Opening the day against host Towson, the Hawks took two of four singles matches as Aurora Davis was a three-set winner over AJ Gomer, 6-1, 7-6, 7-5, while Alex Zachem posted a 6-4, 6-2 win against Sophore Lesage.

The Hawks hit their stride in the second match of the day versus Mount St. Mary's as SJU took all five matches. In singles play, Anne Marie Devlin and Sarah Contrata each picked up wins. On the doubles side, Davis and Zachem, Claire Minnoe and Kelly Mulquin, and Mary-Margaret Ewens and Lauren Roy completed the sweep as all three duos earned two-set sweeps.

In the final match of the day versus UMBC, Saint Joseph's split its six matches, taking two singles matches and one doubles match. Davis and Minnoe each collected singles wins versus the Retrievers, while Zachem and Anne Marie Devlin were 8-3 winners in doubles.

The tournament, which featured five seperate matches, does not count towards a team's overall record.

The Hawks return to action on September 26 when they host the SJU invitational.
