MERION STATION, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team claimed all three doubles matches and kept the momentum going from there as the Hawks posted a 5-2 victory over Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex.
The Hawks (4-8) opened as Aurora Davis and Alex Zachem posted an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Claire Minnoe and Maureen Devlin posted an 8-1 win in the second flight. Kristina Eisenbrand and Sarah Contrata capped the doubles matches with a decisive 8-2 win as SJU opened a 1-0 lead.
Switching to singles, Zachem got SJU a point with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles, while Minnoe countered a URI victory by posting a 6-3, 6-4 win at the second flight.
Kelly Mulquin capped the victory with a 6-3, 7-6 (2) decision at the fifth flight, while Davis finished out the match with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win at the top flight.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Sunday against St. Bonaventure. Saint Joseph's President C. Kevin Gillespie, S.J. will be a guest coach for the match that starts at noon.
