MERION STATION, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team posted its second strong performance against Atlantic 10 competition as the Hawks downed St. Bonaventure, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex.
Like Saturday, Saint Joseph's got off to a strong start versus the Bonnies as it took all three doubles matches for the first point. Aided by guest coach Saint Joseph's University C. Kevin Gillespie '72, S.J., Aurora Davis and Alex Zachem were 8-4 winners at the first flight, while Claire Minnoe and Maureen Devlin took the breaker at second doubles for an 8-7 (5) victory. Kristina Eisenbrand and Sarah Contrata wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win at the third flight.
In singles play, Davis got the Hawks (5-8) started with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles, while Minnoe followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win at the second flight. Kelly Mulquin battled to a three-set victory at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 3-6, 10-6, while Zachem capped the day with a 6-0, 6-3 win at the sixth flight.
The Hawks return to action Monday as they take on Chestnut Hill in the conclusion of last week's match that was postponed due to weather.
