VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team wrapped up its regular season with a 5-2 defeat at Villanova on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomores Kyle Chalmers and Tristan Boustany earned singles victories on the day for SJU.
Playing in the third flight, Chalmers notched a 6-2, 7-5 straight-sets win over Bradley Noyes. Boustany later won his fifth-flight tilt, 6-4, 6-4, over Michael Rosengren.
"The excitement of playing rival Villanova could not get the team into the occasion," head coach Ian Crookenden said. "Our doubles play was flat and our concentration throughout was poor.
"It was definitely not one of the squad's better efforts and certainly not representative of our talent. I look for a much better performance at the Atlantic 10 Championship this week."
The Hawks will head to Mason, Ohio, for this year's conference championship tournament. The eighth-seeded Hawks will take on ninth-seeded Saint Louis on Thursday morning in the first match of the event. The winner will take on top-seeded Richmond in the quarterfinals on Friday.
