Women's Tennis Tops Quinnipiac, 4-3

MEDIA, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team opened up its match with Quinnipiac earning the doubles point and carried the momentum into singles play as the Hawks topped the Bobcats, 4-3, Friday evening at the Springton Tennis Club.

The Hawks (2-1) opened the match with victories at the first and third doubles flights to earn the opening point of the match. Claire Minnoe and Alex Zachem posted a 6-4 decision at the top flight, while Anne Marie Devlin and her sister Maureen Devlin teamed for a 6-4 victory at the third flight.

Moving to singles play, Quinnipiac evened the match with a win at the third flight, but Minnoe and Maureen Devlin moved SJU to within a point of winning as they claimed victories at the first and second flights, respectively. Minnoe earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Sophia Dzulynsky, while Devlin battled to a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 victory over Rachel Horton.

The Bobcats evened the match with wins at the sixth and fourth flights, but SJU's Arianne Polatnick captured the victory for the Hawks with a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Alexandra Mircea in the fifth flight.

"A great team effort that started with some good doubles play that shook our opponents," said head coach Ian Crookenden. "The momentum kept going in the singles and the final point won by Arianne was greeted with great applause. A very well deserved victory against a tough opponent."
