DAYTON, Ohio - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team fell to Saint Louis, 7-0, Saturday afternoon in a neutral site match.
The Hawks opened the match putting up strong efforts in the doubles matches, but the Billikens thwarted the SJU attempts with wins at all three flights.
Moving to singles play, Claire Minnoe went to three sets against Aspen Cervin in the first flight, but Cervin would prevail, 4-6, 6-1, 10-6. The Billikens would take the other five matches to earn the team win.
"A glimpse at one of the top teams in the conference showed why they have had such success. Multi-talented and deep, our Hawk ladies fought and competed well against a superior squad," said SJU head coach Ian Crookenden. "With all positions well accounted for, a fighting display by No. 1 Claire Minnoe who won the first set before succumbing in a 10-point tie breaker with the match already decided was the highlight of the contest. All agreed we have learned from this experience and it will serve us well in future contests."
The Hawks (3-5) return to action next Friday at home versus Duquesne at 1 p.m.
