LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's golf team captured the Bucknell Invitational, while rookie Michael O'Brien earned medalist honors in the season's opening event.
Playing at the Bucknell Golf Club (6,224 yards, par 70), SJU fired a two-round score of 275-295/570 to win the tournament by six strokes over Wayne State and Bucknell.
Individually, O'Brien fired a two-round score of 66-71/137 (-3) to finished tied alongside Lafayette's Reid Bedell. In the first playoff hole, O'Brien bested Bedell to earn medalist honors in his first collegiate event.
The Hawks' Tyler Sokolis tied for ninth at 68-75/143, while rookie Reed Winkler tied for 14th a shot behind him with a score of 70-74/144. Sophomore Ross Pilliod tied for 23rd at 73-75/148 with senior Drew Taylor rounding out the championship squad with a tie for 36th at 71-80/151.
Saint Joseph's returns to action at the Navy Fall Invitational next Sunday, September 18.
