MERION STATION, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team won eight of nine matches en route to a 6-1 victory over Atlantic 10 rival St. Bonaventure on Saturday.

Opening with doubles play, the Hawks picked up wins at all three flights. Claire Minnoe and Alex Zachem teamed for a 6-2 win at the top flight, while Isis Gill-Reid and Maureen Devlin posted a 6-2 win at the second flight. Katherine Devlin and Sarah Contrata earned a 7-6 win at the third flight to earn SJU the sweep and opening point.

Minnoe opened singles play with a 6-4, 6-0 win with Maureen Devlin posting a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the second flight.Zachem posted a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles and Katherine Devlin battled to a 7-5, 1-6, 10-3 victory at the fourth flight. Contrata wrapped up the singles wins with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the fifth flight.

"Good start with doubles wins and the momentum carried through to the singles and we are extremely glad to put a conference win on the board," said SJU head coach Ian Crookenden. "Claire and Alex continued their solid play and I am especially happy to see Maureen come through as she had been fighting hard, but never seeming to get any breaks in past matches. All the ladies played tough and we look forward to a great fight tomorrow."

The Hawks return to action on Sunday when they host George Mason.
