MERION STATION, Pa. – It was a clean sweep of the singles flights on Tuesday afternoon at the Saint Joseph's men's tennis team rolled to a 7-0 win over crosstown rival La Salle at the SJU Tennis Complex. The Hawks won all six matches in straight sets.
Saint Joseph's (11-9 overall, 4-5 Atlantic 10) got things started by winning the doubles point in quick fashion. Junior Peter Dewitt and sophomore Dan Tan breezed to a 6-0 win in the third flight before senior Kyle Chalmers and sophomore Tim Stierle notched a 6-3 win in the first to clinch the point.
Senior Tristan Boustany led off singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 romp in the sixth flight before freshman Beekman Schaeffer's 6-4, 6-4 win in the third and Dewitt's 6-1, 6-2 fifth-flight win locked up the team result for the Hawks.
Sophomore Andre Fick was a 6-3, 6-0 winner in the fourth flight before Stierle claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win in the first and Chalmers was a 6-0, 6-1 winner in the second to finish off the sweep.
Saint Joseph's will take a week off before heading to Villanova on Wednesday, April 19.
