STERLING, Va. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team dropped the back half of its weekend road trip as George Washington came away with a 5-2 win at the Trump National Golf Club on Saturday afternoon.
Saint Joseph's (4-8 overall, 1-5 Atlantic 10) won the day's first match as Peter Dewitt and Dan Tan topped their opponents at love in the third doubles flight. Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, the Colonials took both of the other flights to secure the doubles point.
George Washington (2-15 overall, 1-1 Atlantic 10) notched wins in the first two singles flights, but Tan got the Hawks back into the match by coming from behind to win a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 result in the fifth flight. Luis Janko also earned a singles win, rolling to a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the sixth flight, but the Colonials finished off the match with wins in flights three and four.
“The doubles point hung on a 7-5 decision, and the momentum was maintained as George Washington held on for some close three-set and tiebreak victories,” head coach Ian Crookenden said. “A breakout match going our way is in the cards for our squad.”
The Hawks will now return home for a rescheduled match against Morgan State on Tuesday afternoon.
