LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team had a banner day on Saturday, routing Rider by a 7-0 score.
“The overall performance of the team was very good today,” assistant coach Marc Pibernat said. “The players did what they were supposed to do, which was stay composed and play their games.”
Saint Joseph's (6-11 overall) got things started early as Andre Fick and Tim Stierle combined for a 6-2 win in the first doubles flight before Peter DeWitt and Luis Janko clinched the point with a 7-6 (3) victory.
All four players rolled in their singles matches as well. Stierle won the top-flight tilt, 6-3, 6-3, while Fick dismissed his opponent by a 6-1, 6-3 scoreline in the second.
DeWitt raced out to a 6-1, 6-0 win in the third flight, while Janko earned a 7-6 (1), 6-1 win. Nathan Fioravante wrapped up the sweep in dominant fashion, winning at love in the fifth flight.
“It was a good day to give an opportunity to other players to compete, which shows the depth of the squad,” Pibernat said.
The Hawks will recover tonight and prepare for a matchup with local and conference rival La Salle on Sunday. Play is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the SJU Tennis Complex.
