FAIRFAX, Va. - Saint Joseph's rookies Amanda Nava and Lourdes Sprinckmoller picked up singles wins, but George Mason picked up the team victory, 4-3, on Saturday.
The Hawks jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the match sweeping all three doubles matches. Amanda Nava and Isis Gill-Reid were 6-3 victor at the top flight, with Laura Gomez and Lourdes Sprinckmoller teaming for a 6-3 win at the second flight. Madison Chontos and Madeline Hill completes the sweep with a 7-6 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Nava topped Sydney Green, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, with Sprinckmoller posting a 6-2, 7-6 win against Kayleigh Hahn at the fifth flight.
George Mason would rally though with wins at the other four flights to earn the team victory.
"Always a tough match and this was no exception. They beat us in the heart of our singles lineup and deserved the victory after we won the doubles point," said SJU head coach Ian Crookenden. "La Salle will test our mettle tomorrow."
Saint Joseph's (4-15) caps the regular season portion of its schedule at 9 a.m. Sunday versus La Salle at the SJU Tennis Complex.
