WEST HARRISON, N.Y. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team fell to Fordham, 4-2, in an indoor match at the Life Time Athletic complex on Saturday afternoon.
“An energetic Fordham squad took the doubles point and then continued to roll despite singles wins by Tim [Stierle] and Dan [Tan],” head coach Ian Crookenden said.
Fordham (12-6 overall, 2-1 Atlantic 10) took the early lead with a pair of doubles victories. The Hawks did earn a win in the first flight, however, as Stierle and Beekman Schaeffer combined for a 6-3 triumph.
Stierle earned a point for Saint Joseph's (5-10 overall, 1-6 Atlantic 10), taking his top-flight match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, over Lutwin de Macar to get the Hawks back in the match, but the Rams notched wins in the second and fourth flights to move to the brink of victory.
Tan was able to stem the tide at sixth singles, getting past Alex Makatsaria, 6-1, 6-3, but Fabian Mauritzson clinched the match for Fordham with a third-flight win.
The Hawks return home for a match on Wednesday afternoon against crosstown rival Drexel.
