LITTLE SILVER, N.J. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team battled hard against some of its toughest competition of the season, but Monmouth proved to be too much as the Crimson and Gray fell on the road, 7-0, at Little Silver Tennis Club on Saturday.
“Today, we definitely played against the best team that we will face this season,” assistant coach Marc Pibernat said. “The team has yet to reach its best potential, and we will need that if we want to have a successful month of April.
“From April 4 to April 20, we have a total of nine matches, which means we will be playing every other day. Therefore, we need to be mentally ready to face what is ahead of us.”
The home side jumped ahead right away, notching a trio of 6-2 wins to sweep the doubles point.
Monmouth then earned a sweep of the six singles flights as well. Sophomore Nathan Perrone was in it until the end in the first flight, ultimately falling 6-4, 7-5, while junior Eshan Kanetkar fell in a second-set tiebreak, 7-5, 7-6 (1), in the fifth flight.
Saint Joseph's returns to action on Thursday afternoon against Drexel.
