The Saint Joseph's University Department of Athletics will oversee the University's campus recreation program beginning immediately, Director of Athletics Jill Bodensteiner announced on Friday. As part of the reorganization, Angie Nagle has been appointed assistant athletic director for campus recreation.
Under the new structure, core programming, operations, and health aspects of SJU Campus Recreation will report to Senior Associate Athletics Director for High Performance Eric Laudano D.A.T., M.H.S., A.T.C., while all facilities oversight for intercollegiate athletics and campus recreation will merge and report to Associate Athletics Director for Business Operations and Facilities, Amanda Hall.
"Over the past few months, I have been in conversation with Dr. Cary Anderson, Vice President for Student Life, regarding the optimal structure for the University's Campus Recreation program," Bodensteiner said. "The decision to move and reorganize Campus Recreation was motivated primarily by the desire to optimize the student experience and become more efficient -- particularly in the areas of student health, well-being and athletic facilities. I firmly believe that this will provide better service for all involved."
Nagle, who served as Assistant Director of Campus Recreation at Saint Joseph's for more than 11 years, will be responsible for leading Campus Recreation, including program oversight, club and intramural sports oversight, staff management, campus collaborative initiatives, and overall strategic vision. Overseeing the University's 24-club sport program, Nagle came to Hawk Hill in 2008 after serving as Director of Campus Recreation at La Salle for three years. Beginning her career in higher education with stops at North Carolina, Drexel and Temple, she earned a bachelor's degree in sport and recreation management from Temple in 2003 and completed her master's in sport and administration at Temple in 2005.
Saint Joseph's University Campus Recreation - which includes club sports, intramurals, and Group Fitness - was previously under the purview of the Department of Student Life.
"With Campus Recreation joining Athletics, it will bring new innovation to Saint Joseph's and the student experience," said Bodensteiner.
