Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls to #16/#24 St. John's in Season Opener, 1-0

QUEENS, N.Y. – The Red Storm's Tani Oluwaseyi scored in the 64th minute as #16/#24 St. John's handed the Saint Joseph's men's soccer squad a 1-0 road loss in both program's season openers at Belson Stadium in cold weather conditions on Monday afternoon.

"I thought our team performed well against a strong St. John's side," said head coach Don D'Ambra. "We knew they would test our backline and, for the most part, we managed their attack well. We created some good opportunities offensively but felt we could have been much more aggressive on our attack. There were a lot of positives to take away from this match, and we learned a lot about ourselves and identified areas we need to improve on."

In his collegiate debut, Saint Joseph's freshman goalkeeper Luis Ludosan (0-1) made five saves vs. just one goal allowed in the full 90:00.

St. John's held a 9-7 advantage in shots and 6-5 edge in shots on goal while Saint Joseph's earned five of the match's nine corner kick opportunities.

How It Happened:
•
Anchored by Ludosan's four first-half goals, the Hawks and Red Storm went into the halftime break tied 0-0 after the opening 45:00. Junior forward Bryce Wallace (14') and sophomore midfielder James Fletcher (29') landed shots on goal while senior midfielder Alvin Dahn just missed off the left post in the 34th minute.
• Freshman midfielder Nemo Philipp fired off a shot on net in the 62nd minute, but St. John's goalkeeper Luka Gavran (1-0) made the stop. Just 119 seconds later, Oluwaseyi scored on a double assist from Brandon Knapp and Ethan Shaw (63:49) to put the Red Storm on the board.
• Dahn ('82) and fellow senior midfielder Daniel Morales (87') fired off shots on goal in the final 9:53 of regulation, but Gavran made his fourth and fifth saves to keep the Hawks scoreless.
