Women's Lacrosse Falls at Temple, 11-10, in Double Overtime

PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell in a heartbreaker as Temple came away with an 11-10 win in double overtime at Howarth Field on Saturday.  Goalkeeper Melissa Semkiw made a season-high 15 saves on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Temple (4-1) opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game, but the teams traded goals over the 12 minutes, with the hosts taking a 3-2 lead at the 18:09 mark.

• Saint Joseph's (2-3) would take its first lead of the day at 4-3 after Stephanie Kelly and Bridget Cerciello scored 95 seconds apart late in the half.  Two minutes later, Jen Rodzewich tied the game at 4-4, and nearly put the Owls ahead at the stroke of halftime, but Semkiw made the save on doorstep to preserve the tie.

• The Owls came out firing in the second half, scoring three straight to go ahead, 7-4, but the Hawks rallied back with four in a row over a six-minute span.  Kelly netted her second of the day before Lauren Figura ripped off a natural hat trick, scoring three times in 3:22, to put the Hawks back on top, 8-7.

• After Temple nosed back in front with two goals in 25 seconds, Sam McGee scored her second of the afternoon to tie the game with 4:18 to go.

• Belle Mastropietro put the Owls back on top less than a minute later, but Kelly finished off her own hat trick with 1:19 to go to tie the game at 10-10.  Semkiw then made another save in the final 30 seconds of regulation to send the game to overtime.

• In the first extra frame, the Hawks hit the pipe twice on the same possession, but could not find the back of the net.  Temple won draw to start the second overtime, earning three consecutive free position opportunities.  Semkiw prevented Mastropietro from scoring, but Kara Nakrasius beat her low to send the Owls to the victory.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Semkiw's 15 saves are a season high, while she also led the team with four ground ball pickups and two caused turnovers.  Shana Hecht made 11 stops in the cage for Temple.

• Thw Owls outshot the Hawks 37-27 on the afternoon and held a slight 13-12 edge in draw controls.

• Kelly led the offense with five points on three goals and two assists, while Figura and McGee tallied three points apiece.  Julia Pash grabbed five draws, while Bridget Cerciello had four.

• After scoring just four free position goals through their first four games, the Hawks went 5-for-6 from eight meters on Saturday.
