PHILADELPHIA – Melissa Semkiw made 17 saves and Stephanie Kelly added eight points, but the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell to 24th-ranked UMass, 18-13, at Sweeney Field on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• UMass (13-2 overall, 8-0 Atlantic 10) took control early, scoring six of the game's first seven goals to take a 6-1 lead after 13 minutes.

• The Hawks settled in from there, ripping off three straight to get back into the game.  Lauren Figura netted her second of the day and was followed by Kelly and Sam McGee to cut it to 6-4 with just under five to go in the first half.

• The visitors would get two more before Alyssa Manley netted with seven seconds remaining to send the game into halftime at 8-5.  Semkiw was outstanding in the opening stanza, keeping the Hawks in the game with 12 saves.

• Emma O'Neill opened the second half for Saint Joseph's (9-6 overall, 6-2 Atlantic 10), but two quick UMass goals made it a 10-6 game at the 27:46 mark.  The Hawks would get back within a pair through McGee and Figura, making it a 10-8 game with 22:14 to play in the second half.

• The Minutewomen would go on a 5-0 run over the next six minutes, but the Hawks stormed back with a spurt of their own, potting four goals in four minutes, to make it a 15-12 game with 10:27 to play.

• Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, UMass was able to salt the game away with three of the game's last four goals.
