Saint Joseph's seniors
Jordan Olenginski (field hockey) and
Nathan Perrone (men's tennis) have been selected as the recipients of the Saint Joseph's Class of 1950 Award as the school's top graduating senior student-athletes. The honors were announced upon the release of the fourth annual Hawkies virtual awards ceremony on May 10.
Olenginski has served as one of the Hawks' captains the past two seasons and has helped lead the SJU field hockey program to an unprecedented run of success. Saint Joseph's claimed three consecutive regular season and postseason championship sweeps during her time on Hawk Hill, claiming both the Atlantic 10 regular season crown and tournament titles in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Olenginski and the Hawks made the first three NCAA Tournament appearances in program history after each of those titles, and added a fifth consecutive Atlantic 10 championship game appearance to the program's mantle last month.
A native of Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, Olenginski earned Second Team All-Conference honors this season. That comes on the heels of a breakout campaign in 2019 that saw her earn Second Team All-Region accolades to go along with First Team All-Atlantic 10 laurels as she ranked second in the conference in goals and fourth in points. Olenginski has also shown her mettle in the postseason, earning All-Championship Team nods in both 2017 and 2019; she totaled three points in the Hawks' 2017 championship victory at UMass and then scored the lone goal in the 2019 title game at Richmond.
A top student as well, Olenginski has received a multitude of academic honors during her time on Hawk Hill. She is a three-time Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team honoree and added
Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area selections in both 2018 and 2019 (no such honors were awarded for the 2020-21 field hockey season). In addition, she is a four-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association Scholar of Distinction and National Academic Squad honoree, and was chosen to represent Saint Joseph's and the Atlantic 10 at the 2020 NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum.
Perrone has been a fixture at the top of the lineup for the men's tennis program, occupying the first-flight singles and doubles slots since his arrival on campus. This season, he combined for 27 wins across both disciplines as he helped lead the Hawks to the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship last month.
Hailing from Moorestown, New Jersey, Perrone earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors at the end of the 2018-19 season, his first at SJU. He then claimed the title in the top singles flight at the Saint Joseph's Invitational and reached the Fourth Round of the ITA Regional Championship in the fall of 2019. For his career, he has posted a 44-11 singles record and a 37-20 doubles mark; his career winning percentage places him third in Saint Joseph's program history.
Another strong student, Perrone has been named to both the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Saint Joseph's Athletic Director's Honor Roll during his time in the Crimson and Gray.
The pair will be among the honorees at the University's degree conferral ceremony on May 22.
